Eric ! Don't take it that way man . I respect your interest in Maths and you as well . I just want to convey that We both are finally right on our sides but the thing is that if you really want , i will put an and between them , is it Ok . By the way , what are ur other interests !

Er, I do get the point. Please don't take offence, as there is none meant, but it seems to me that the problem here is, perhaps, your written English language. Fyi, maths was always my strongest subject at school, even if it feels like 100 years ago now :)

Hi eri , You don't got the point . Where is ur high school from ?
  • ericisking said on 16-Mar-2011, 5 years ago
So basically, it was a trick question because there were 2 correct answers i.e. the one you gave as correct AND the answer '1' which you have decided (incorrectly) was wrong. Not in the spirit of the game imho, but hey ho, there are worse things happening in the world.

If I would have put values , you might have got a hint but most people actually don't know the ANSWER . The person who simply knows the fact would have just marked the correct answer
  • ericisking said on 16-Mar-2011, 5 years ago
@ramitpal Forgot to mention that the question also states 'value' in the singular rather than 'values' in the plural, therefore the answer '1' is also correct. Pedantic, I know, but still correct. :)

@ramitpal You are, of course, correct in that there are two values but rather than a comma, could you not have used the word 'and' ? To me, -1, +1 = 0 :)

Hi feline ! Nice to hear from you . By the way at what date and month u are born .
  • ramitpal said on 16-Mar-2011, 5 years ago
hi ericisking ! Your asked a good question . Basically the square root function is defined as if it is applied to the square of a function , we gaet our number back . So for example square of 1 and -1 is both 1 so , the number inside the square can also be 1 or -1 . So , thats why the answer is both 1 and -1 . If u have any other Maths doubts , you can ask me .

    My thoughts exactly!

Value of square root of 1 is -1,+1 ?? How do you explain that one ?
