Mypocket Oxford dictionary lists commode as a chamber pot mounted in a chair PLUS chest of drawers - on antique programmes they refer to a chest of drawers as a commode sometimes.

I think the original names have been adapted according to regions etc. but a commode is definitely "a piece of furniture containing a concealed chamber pot". According to the Oxford English Dictionary. Interesting quiz, I enjoyed it.

My dictionary says: ottoman - cushioned seat like sofa or chair without back or arms, often a box with cushioned top. The commode you're thinking of is properly called a night-commode. Glad you liked the quiz - I had fun researching it, and thanks for the comments.

I agree an ottoman is a bedding box and a commode is a toilet in a chair.
