As one of the most highly anticipated music award ceremonies of the year, the 2010 BRIT Awards were a show stopping success with some amazing performances, killer red carpet outfits and Lady GaGa and JLS holding more than one award each at the end of the night.
Like the American ‘Grammy Awards’, winning a BRIT is a prestigious achievement for any British artist to take home. It was a spectacular night for Lily Allen as she celebrated winning ‘British Female Solo Artist’ having had to walk away empty handed for the last 3 years. But this year she really did get what she rightly deserved having as she was the best selling female artist of 2009 with her latest album “It’s not me, it’s you”. The pint sized Londoner opened the ceremony with her number 1 single ‘The Fear’, making her entrance on a pink and silver glittery rocket. What a star! Later on in the evening, she accepted her award wearing a bright orange wig and giggled: “I only wore this orange wig because I thought I would make it more difficult for the cameramen to find me and catch my disappointed face!”

Other big award winners were Lady GaGa and JLS. Crazy GaGa flew the flag for the international artists by winning not one but three awards last night for Best International Female, Best International Album and Best International Breakthrough Artist. She performed an unreleased song wearing a big beehive wig, a lace mask and a half lacy all in one ensemble and she dedicated the song to British designer Alexander McQueen. Collecting her awards she sounded quite emotional and thanked her “little monster” fans.
X Factor runners up JLS prove you don’t have to win the biggest talent show on earth…when you win 2 BRIT awards off your own back! Winning Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single the boys are proving to be Britain’s boyband of the moment.
Hot favourite Florence and the Machine took away the said most prestigious award- Best British Album for ‘Lungs’.
Other big news was brave Cheryl Cole’s performance of ‘Fight for this Love’ as her marital problems have been hitting the headlines all week. Host Peter Kay said as Cole finished: “Never a truer word spoken”. Poor Cheryl, fingers crossed Ashley Cole fixes this mess before it’s too late!
Sadly Brit newcomer Pixie Lott walked away with nothing despite being nominated for 3 awards. However, she did look amazing on the red carpet alongside the Sugababes, Kylie Minogue, Cat Deeley and Leona Lewis.
